My standard rate for a 50-minute therapy session is $225. I am also able to provide a few lower-cost sessions for individuals who have flexible schedules and would otherwise not be able to afford services. More info on my sliding scale is below. Fees are due at the end of each session.
Insurance
I am an out-of-network provider for all insurance plans. That means that I do not bill your insurance directly, though I am happy to provide paperwork to help you submit for reimbursement from your insurer. Many insurance providers have relatively good reimbursement rates for people who pay out of pocket for therapy, and it is worth checking on these benefits with your insurance provider.
Questions to ask your insurance provider
If you are interested in submitting for reimbursement from your insurance provider, you will first want to gather information on your plan’s out-of-network benefits for behavioral health services. The easiest way to do this is probably going to be to log into your account on the insurer’s website and look for the information there. You can also call the phone number that is usually found on the back of your insurance card. If you are inquiring about reimbursement for my services, your insurance company may want to know that I am practicing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and that I offer telehealth services. Here are some questions to ask:
- What behavioral health benefits are provided through my plan, particularly for outpatient psychotherapy?
- Are out-of-network benefits included?
- Must I select a therapist from a list or can I choose any provider?
- Are telehealth visits covered as well as in-person sessions?
- Is any pre-approval required before obtaining out-of-network behavioral health services? If so, how do I go about obtaining that?
- What portion of the cost if covered? If there a limit to the number of sessions or total cost that can be reimbursed?
Sliding scale
If you are financially able, I ask you to consider paying my full fee. This honesty and accountability supports my being able to offer a reduced rate to clients who are committed to their own healing but aren’t able to pay my full fee. For those of you who experience stress in trying to meet basic needs, I invite you to inquire about the availability of reduced rate sessions. You can use the image below (originally posted here) to help you think through whether paying the full fee or a lower rate makes the most sense for you.
